Hatlapa stern rollers for Maersk tugs
Danish shipping company, Maersk Supply Service, has ordered two large stern rollers from German marine equipment company, Hatlapa, to be used in two tugs built for worldwide use in the oil and gas industry.
The 3m by 6m stern rollers are part of Hatlapa’s offshore power product range, which includes a variety of deck machinery and associated equipment designed specifically for harsh conditions faced in the offshore sector.
The rollers each have a safe working load (SWL) of 1,000 tonnes, making them the largest stern rollers Hatlapa has ever produced.
Hatlapa says it hopes this order will showcase the quality of its products and help it move into the South American market.
Jörg Tollmien, managing director, Hatlapa, said: “We are pushing ahead in the offshore business. It allows us to bolster ourselves against the fluctuations in the commercial shipbuilding market and is ideal for us. Last year over a third of the HATLAPA’s annual turnover was generated by the offshore market.”
In conjunction with its subsidiary, Norway based Triplex, Hatlapa also offers winches, remote controlled gantry cranes and shark jaws.
The first of the two tugs was delivered in early 2013, with the second due to be delivered by March 2014.
