High tech hardware for Van Oord pipe layer

Germany’s Guntermann & Drunck, has equipped Van Oord’s first shallow water pipe laying vessel, ‘Stingray’, with high tech KVM technology.

Alweijnse says the contract for the new vessel is one of the largest, single ship contract it's received

The Keyboard, Video and Mouse (KVM) technology has brought together all of the computer applications required for laying pipes in one easy to use console called a KVM matrix DVICenter.

And the console also controls all other operations onboard the vessel from cranes to anchor handling, all operated from the bridge.

With a KVM matrix, the user benefits from the advantages of a direct computer connection, while a technician can maintain the computers in the server room without disturbing the crew at the bridge, thus no interfering with operations.

Stingray itself was built in China but was tailored and converted by Van Oord to its own individual needs for offshore work.

The vessel is well suited to laying pipelines associated with shore approaches and other associated activities in water from five up to 100 metres. But it’s also suitable for all other light offshore operations.
