Huisman responds to Norwegian demand

The Bergen office, Huisman Norge AS, is the first office in Scandinavia for the lifting, drilling and subsea specialist.

Geir Bjørkeli, who heads the new office, told Maritime Journal: “By establishing a Norwegian office, Huisman can be more responsive to demands from Norwegian clients in the oil and gas industry. Bergen is the perfect location to serve the Norwegian market, as it is one of the most complex maritime clusters in the world and has a strong position in the global maritime market.”

“We haven’t addressed this market before so will be focusing on three main product groups: drilling equipment, pipelay equipment and cranes and winches. At the moment we are focusing on the Bergen office, but we do not exclude the possibility of more offices in Norway and Scandinavia as the business is growing,” he added.

The company’s recently launched new series of large offshore cranes, which have lifting capacities of up to 900m, could play a key role in the Norwegian market. Contracts have already been signed with Subsea7 and Vard Shipyard, while Huisman has also seen a recent demand for its pipelay equipment, securing ten new orders with IHC Merwede, Subsea7 and Technip-DOF.

Production is split between facilities in The Netherlands, China and the Czech Republic, while a new production facility in Brazil is currently under construction.

Additional sales, engineering and service offices are located in Slovakia, Brazil, Singapore and the US.
