IHC Merwede launches new cutter dredger

The new vessel, which replaces the IHC Beaver 6518 in the Beaver series of standard cutter suction dredgers. It has been designed with a Directly Driven Submerged Pump (DDSP) which has been mounted on the cutter ladder. This enables dredging at high mixture densities, as there is no limitation on the vacuum, even at greater dredging depths.

The IHC Beaver 65 DDSP, which can be set to work on inland waters and at sea, features the latest innovations and technologies and a pivoting gearbox to make it more reliable, efficient, productive and easier to maintain. Driven by a diesel engine, energy losses are also kept to a minimum since the conversion to electricity or hydraulic energy is not required.

Following the launch event at the Sliedrecht shipyard, the new dredger was towed to IHC Merwede’s harbour in Sliedrecht, where it will be tested and prepared for shipment.
