JUNE 2012 Front Cover Story

The Eurocarrier 2611 Martine P, built by Neptune Shipyards in the Netherlands for GSS Marine Services, went into service in April of this year.

The third 2611 to be built by Neptune, the Martine P has been certified by Bureau Veritas and carries the notation: Unrestricted navigation, Aut-UMS.

The ship’s main engines are two Caterpillar C32 diesels, each rated 1,300 hp at 1,800 RPM and driving two 1,850mm diameter propellers through Masson gearboxes. This package provides a 32 tonne bollard and a maximum navigating speed of approximately 10 knots. Electrical power is supplied by two Caterpillar C9 generator sets, each supplying approximately 250 kVA. The Martine P is equipped with a steering grid bowthruster driven by a 280 kW motor, makes the vessel easy to handle and highly manoeuvrable.

For hydraulic power, a TecnoSpirit power pack is installed to drive all the deck equipment. This includes a Tecnospirit 100 tonne anchor handling winch, a 50 tonne towing winch, and a tugger winch with a 10 tonne pull. On deck, a Heila HLRM 140-3S crane is placed aft and a Heila HLRM 230-4SL crane is forward. The vessel is also equipped with towing pins and a wire catcher.

Martine P is equipped for a maximum of 15 passengers, with sleeping capacity for seven. There are exceptionally roomy cabins for the crew to relax in, each with its own TV with DVD player and satellite receiver. All cabins are fully air conditioning. The ship’s mess is above decks and very well equipped, again with a TV, DVD player and satellite receiver installed.

The Martine P’s wheelhouse has a spacious layout which creates a pleasant working environment for the captain. Excellent all around vision provides a good overview of the work being undertaken at all times, ensuring it can be carried out quickly and safely.
