Middle East proves popular
The Middle East is proving popular with the offshore marine industry, with four major contracts signed within moments of the opening of ‘Middle East Workboats and Offshore Marine 2013’.
Netherlands’ Damen Shipyards Group signed an agreement with Saudi-based Bin Nowiran for Trading and Contracting (BINCO).
The contract for seven vessels of five different ship types will be operated by BINCO in Kuwait to serve SPM operations for Saudi Arabian Chevron’s marine export facility in Mina Saud.
Martin de Bruijn, regional director, Middle East, Damen, told Maritime Journal: “We want to be a preferred supplier for the Middle East maritime and offshore industries, including ports and dredging.”
“We have a track record for over 40 years in these key markets, but we saw an increasing demand for services in the Middle East, such as warranty, repair, maintenance, training and customer finance,” he added.
Damen Shipyards Sharjah also signed a repair frame agreement with Singapore’s Miclyn Express Offshore.
Netherlands’ Smit Lamnalco and Abu Dhabi petroleum ports operating company, IRSHAD, also signed a deal.
Smit’s DPS AHTS vessel, SL Labuan, has been contracted to carry out maintenance activities for two years at three Single Point Mooring (SPM) crude oil terminals in Fujairah.
The event, which opened yesterday at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) and runs until Wednesday 2 October, provides a platform for key announcements by regional industry players.
