New Butendiek windfarm partner
The German windfarm developer and operator wpd has acquired a further partner for the development of the Butendiek offshore windfarm.
Switzerland’s Elektrizitätswerk der Stadt Zürich (ewz) has acquired a share of the new windfarm being built in the German North Sea.
Other investors in the project are Marguerite Fund, Siemens Project Ventures (SPV), Industriens Pensionsforsikring (IP), Pensionskassernes Administration (PKA) and CDC Infrastructure (Caisse des Dépôts group).
wpd has developed the Butendiek project and is responsible for the project management in the construction as well as in the operation phase.
Work on offshore construction will begin in March 2014. In the autumn of 2014, the first wind turbine generators are due to be installed. Completion of the works is planned for the summer of 2015.
The €1.3b wpd Butendiek offshore wind farm will supply 370,000 households with electricity. It will have 80 turbines and a combined capacity of 288 MW.
