New IHC Merwede Omnibarge
Vessel builder IHC Merwede of the Netherlands is continuing its strong building and design history with the introduction of a new Omnibarge design.
The company says its main aim with the new Omnibarge design is to provide its customers with the lowest cost per tonne per transported mile by combining robustness with a new optimised hull shape.
Detailed CFD analysis and extensive basin trials at the Marin Research Institute have found a 15% improvement in fuel consumption, compared to other modern reference vessels, while maintaining the durability of the hull shape.
Keeping the design and build close to home, IHC Merwede makes all of the hopper sealing, hydraulics, drives and automation in-house.
This latest generation of Omnibarge can also be equipped with a suction tube for dredging.
