New MAN 175D unveiled at SMM
MAN Diesel & Turbo unveiled the first 12-cylinder version of its new high-speed engine family at the 2014 SMM exhibition in Hamburg.
The MAN 175D, was developed to fit in precisely with the needs of commercial shipping and is optimised for propelling ferries, offshore supply vessels, tug boats and working vessels. It has an output spectrum ranging from 1,500 to 2,200kW.
“With the MAN 175D, we are supplementing and completing MAN Diesel & Turbo’s and MAN Truck & Bus’s product portfolio in the maritime sector,” said Dr Hans-Otto Jeske, chief technology officer and acting CEO, MAN Diesel & Turbo.
The MAN 175D is compact, reliable and efficient – properties that are of essential importance for use on working vessels to allow safe maneuvrability in the most challenging and roughest weather conditions.
It also scores highly in terms of its eco-friendliness. Its compact and modular exhaust gas after-treatment system uses the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) method and is based on the MAN Ad Blue technology that has undergone many thousands of hours of testing. The engine will therefore satisfy the strict environmental standards of the IMO Tier III standards.
MAN 175D customers will have full access to the world’s MAN PrimeServ service network with over 120 locations worldwide. A service support point is available in all major ports. Customers are able to rely on the global and high-quality service standards provided by MAN PrimeServ everywhere.
The new engine will be offered to the first pilot customers from as early as 2015.
