New Maritime Academy

Work has begun on a new maritime academy on Liverpool’s waterfront, with Liverpool Community College investing more than £250,000 in the new Glaciere Maritime Academy being built on the city’s Collingwood Dock.

The academy will be the first of its kind in the UK and will teach students everything from leisure diving to sailing to commercial water qualifications needed for jobs working at sea and in ports.

The new academy has received planning approval and work is in progress to create 2,300 sq/ft of new facilities including classrooms, offices, a 12m by 10m training pool for diving and a dock area, where the centre’s power boats are berthed.

Courses on offer include everything from PADI diving qualifications to power boat courses, first aid at sea, sea survival and the STCW95 course, the commercial qualification needed to work on offshore wind farms.
