New Typhoon hull for Delta RIBs

The new Typhoon range, which has been developed over the last three years, currently has an overall length of 9m and can reach speeds of over 50 knots. The hull is similar to the original Delta hull, retaining a high bow sheer and similar dead rise but features redesigned spray rails and chines to improve efficiency. This requires less input power to achieve the same performance and allows smaller engines to be fitted, resulting in reduced fuel consumption.

The first four 9m boats using this hull will be used as coastal patrol vessels by Yemen based petroleum exploration and production company, PetroMasila. They will be shipping to Yemen after trials in the Solent, UK.

These coastguard vessels will have PU coated, closed cell foam fendering which has been developed primarily for use in the offshore oil and gas industry where resilience to damage is essential.

Currently, the Typhoon’s hull can have either a closed cell foam collar or an inflatable sponson and can be powered by single or twin outboard motors or a single inboard diesel of up to 440 hp.

Delta says it plans to develop the Typhoon further, increasing the length and beam to allow the fitting of twin inboard diesels or multiple outboard motors.
