Opus Marine purchase
The Hamburg based ship owning company and operator of offshore service vessels Opus Marine GmbH has announced that it is adding another vessel to its fleet. The stated aim of the acquisition is the strategic broadening of the present service portfolio for the German offshore industry.
The new vessel, Magnificat, (ex Atlantic Cougar) is a catamaran of 30m length overall and features dynamic positioning achieved by its two azimuthing and retractable thrusters. Given the additional four point mooring and accommodation for up to 10 passengers, this vessel proves a safe and flexible solution for all kinds of work in the offshore industry.
Opus Marine is targeting employments of the vessel during the detection and removal of unexploded ordinances (UXO) as well as further services in the growing German offshore industry with its ongoing construction programme of new offshore wind farms in the German North and Baltic Sea sectors. The Magnificat was originally launched as Swedish Marine survey vessel Nils Strömkrona. Since 2009 it has been in service for the UK based offshore specialist company Atlantic-Marine who employed the vessel as crew transfer and survey vessel.
