Planet Ocean introduces ‘Seastick’ to UK
UK-based scientific instrument distributor, Planet Ocean, is partnering with Italy’s GABRI to bring its Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) ‘Seastick’ to the UK and Ireland.
‘Seastick’ features traditional forward dive controls and stern rudders and incorporates two variable pitch thrusters using low power, silent, frictionless, magnetic induction motors which are said to allow hovering and vertical movement in the water column.
“Seastick is a fantastic piece of convergent technology engineering design and we look forward to introducing it to the UK user community,” said a Planet Ocean spokesperson.
Planet Ocean says the Seastick control software allows for quick management of manoeuvrability, functionality and onboard sensors. The control of the vehicle can be manual both on the surface through Wi-Fi and through an umbilical cable or acoustic modem when submerged.
Specially designed Mission Planner Software allows the user to pre-set the navigation route and the parameters of the missions as well as downloading data.
The AUV can also be used with a tether, turning it in to a powerful Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV).
It also features fully customisable payload drawers and a choice of telemetry for a range of mission options, which can run for 10 hours from a single charge.
