Portugal’s HSBO Forum
The 7th High Speed Boat Operations Forum taking place from the 4th to 6th May 2015 in Lisbon, Portugal will be co-hosted by the Portuguese Navy and Maritime Authority.
HSBO Forum is a by-invitation-only conference gathering for high speed boat professionals from 30 countries around the world.
Experts will give presentations on new developments, research, technologies, operational procedures, boat designs and equipment. According to the organisers “many of the best boats built for professional use will be available for full speed sea trialling at open sea.”
In an excitingly hands-on vein, a number of boats will run together from Lorient in France to Lisbon the week before HSBO 2015. The organisers have clarified that ”Lisbon Atlantic Challenge is not a boat race.”
Rather, the object, they state, is to “create an opportunity for endurance testing and benchmarking of boat crews.” The plan is to start on Sunday morning April 26 and reach Algés Marina in Lisboa on Saturday May 2. The total distance of 950 Nm is planned with 6 day-legs of up to 180 Nm and one lay day. Maritime Journal would respectfully recommend shock mitigation seating, or failing that a very thick cushion for that one.
