Propeller partnership
Michigan Wheel Marine has announced a new partnership with Nakashima Propeller Co Ltd to develop and expand its global marine propeller business.
Together, the companies will cover both the commercial and leisure marine sectors, providing fixed pitch propellers for large tankers, crew carriers and ferries and propellers for superyachts and smaller pleasure boats.
As part of the agreement, Nakashima has acquired a 30% stock holding in Michigan Wheel Marine.
Jeremy Usher, sales manager, Michigan Marine Propulsion International (MMP), told Maritime Journal: “This partnership opens up bigger commercial and leisure product lines for us to sell, for example, 180mm to 12m propellers and thrusters.”
“Both Nakashima and Michigan have been supplying propellers around the world for many years and both have different methods and capabilities. Combining these adds a lot of depth to the product offering for our customers,” he added.
Over the years, MMP has made a number of strategic moves which include the opening of foundries in the US, Japan, Philippines and Vietnam for both hand case and CNC finish.
To cope with demand, MMP told MJ it’s employed two more propulsion engineers at its base in Newton Abbot and has plans to add another engineer to its Dubai office.
The company has a sales and service centre in Dubai which will now also service Nakashima thrusters, as well as supplying the full range of products.
