Riffgat windfarm topside installed
The installation of the topside for the Riffgat offshore windfarm, located North West of German Island, Borkum, has been completed.
The topside was delivered by international contractor, Strukton Hollandia Joint Venture (SHJV), which was awarded the contract in March 2011.
The topside was delivered to the site where Seaway Heavy Lifting’s vessel, Oleg Strashnov, installed it on to the jacket substructure, which was installed in September 2012. The wind turbines will be connected once SHJV has commissioned the substation, which is expected to be completed within a few weeks.
When finished, the windfarm, which is owned by EWE Energie AG and ENOVA Unternehmensgruppe, will consist of 30 turbines with a total capacity of 108MW. It is expected to generate enough energy for more than 100,000 German homes.
Wilfried Hube, project manager, EWE, said: “With the installation and commissioning of the substation, we a big step closer to our goal of having the Riffgat completed for the summer. Now we can do everything to prepare for the arrival of the first wind turbines in April.”
Construction is expected to be completed in summer 2013.
