RNLI Reflects Well On Echomax
Following sea trials, the new Echomax Midi Basemount reflector has been chosen by the RNLI for their fleet of RIBs, replacing their active antennas.
From a ship based radar, Echomax gave 100% paints at 3.8 miles and 80% paints at over five miles in sea state ‘fair’ although the reflector was mounted only 2m above sea level. Structural and durability tests were conducted off The Needles and were followed by a capsize test.
The recently introduced Echomax Midi Basemount was designed primarily for RIBs with A-frames and the power boat market. Historically, RIB manufacturers have had a problem of where to fit the reflector, with many being mounted inefficiently on the side of the A-frame. The new Basemount solves this problem whilst also providing a mounting point for the navigation light.
Echomax will be fitted this year to RIBs manufactured by Delta, Ribcraft, MST and others.
The Echomax EM230 was fitted to adventurer Bear Gryll’s Arnold & Son Transatlantic Arctic Expedition RIB for his successful 3,000 mile crossing of the North Atlantic last summer.
Upon completion of the voyage, Bear gave the EM230 high praise. ‘We were picked up on a tanker’s radar from 12 miles away during a Force 6. We were pretty bloody impressed with Echomax.’
