Salvage contract
SMIT Salvage, a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Boskalis Westminster NV, is to remove a damaged jack-up platform from the seabed offshore Angola.
During its installation near a pigging platform in July 2013, the platform suffered a punch-through and sank to a depth of 30m.
This contract follows extensive site surveys and other preparatory activities carried out by a Boskalis survey team and by SMIT Salvage last September.
The company will remove the hull, legs and other components from the jack-up platform and will mobilise a diving support vessel, a work barge, anchor handling tugs and specialised equipment to carry out the salvage operation. Work is expected to start in Q2 of this year.
Including this contract, SMIT Salvage has acquired around US$70m of work this year to date.
