Sea Lord Leaps into Education
A milestone in the history of one of the UKs newest universities occurred late last month when Sir Alan West, former First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff, was installed as the first Chancellor of Southampton Solent University. Sir Alan Wests appointment reflects the strength of the Universitys maritime provision, including its Warsash Maritime Centre, which provides education, training, research and consultancy services to the maritime and offshore industries.
Situated near six important British coal fired power stations, including Drax, the country’s largest power station, HIT 2 was developed to meet the power generation industry’s growing demand for coal. To secure the financial success of the terminal project, ABP signed agreements with mining giant BHP Billiton, as well as power station operators International Power, Scottish and Southern Energy, Drax Power and EDF Energy.
