Seagull extends distance training packages

Seagull has developed a DNV SeaSkill Certified MLC 2006 Distance Course package to help the maritime industry to comply with the MLC. The Convention which has been approved by 32 countries, will replace 37 existing maritime conventions and recommendations.

Lance Savaria, sales and marketing director, Seagull, said: “Seagull’s package of training modules was introduced to allow all shipping companies, operators, ship managers and other shipping office staff and senior officers onboard ship to acquire knowledge and manage compliance. As entry into force approaches, we have responded to the need for all parties involved to be fully trained in their responsibilities.”

The package is divided into three modules, aimed at three target groups – shore based personnel, senior officers and managers and junior officers and ratings.

The first and second modules provide details on how to achieve, manage and maintain compliance and addresses validity of certification and the consequences of non-compliance.

The final module addresses the areas of responsibilities for office staff dealing with employment conditions and crew facilities and includes flag state inspection and certification issues.

MLC 2006 determines minimum requirements for the working conditions of seafarers including accommodation, work hours, welfare and social security protection and is subject to port state control.
