Seaward Marine seeks buyers
Alison and Barry Kimber, owners of UK based boatbuilding company Seaward Marine Limited, have announced that they are seeking buyers for the business following their decision to retire.
Based on the Isle of Wight, the company has been producing commercial and pleasure craft for customers worldwide for over 33 years. The ongoing recession has forced the owners to largely suspend production due to the lack of orders. As a result, eight members of staff have been laid off.
Barry Kimber said: “The current economic climate is a challenge as although we continue to have substantial interest from around the world for our boats, customers are taking much longer to confirm orders.”
“Fortunately the company owns its assets so we can keep the facility together and offer it to a new owner. I am quite confident from my discussions with customers that orders will eventually come through and there’s a well-established business, capability and product range for someone to inherit.”
Alison Kimber added: “Obviously we’re very disappointed that we couldn’t continue to offer employment to a skilled and loyal workforce that has been with us for many years and are concerned to find someone to take over who could perhaps offer work again.”
Mrs Kimber will continue to operate the brokerage business.
