Shanghai and Antwerp work together
The ports of Shanghai and Antwerp have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see them exchange information about their respective hinterlands, carry out joint promotion and set up training courses for maritime professionals.
The two parties, which represent the largest port in the world and the second largest port in Europe, have been collaborating since 1985, when a twinning agreement was made during the Belgian trade mission to China.
Antwerp says it attaches great importance to the Shanghai region and South China, and so appointed a permanent representative there back in 2008. Jan Van der Borght has since worked to raise the Port of Antwerp’s name in the region.
