Simulation centre aids safety and efficiency

The simulation centre at Viking Maritime’s Maritime Skills Academy Solent (MSA Solent) in Portsmouth, Hampshire features a full mission engine control room with full view Wärtsilä NACOS Platinum INS bridge simulator.

Simulation facilities have been created in partnership with Wärtsilä and designed by its subsidiary Transas. The full mission bridge and engine room simulators operate with the latest Transas software and Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum navigation systems. Students at the centre will be able to utilise realistic, fully operational bridge wings with all around view.

MSA Solent is fully equipped to deliver simulator and classroom-based bridge and engine resource management courses, including all classroom based STCW training. The bridge and engine resource management courses are split evenly between classroom-based and simulator-based delivery. Vessel resource management training and detailed training for deck/technical officers and crew is also available.

A wide range of conventional and Azipod driven ship models are in use, alongside specialised and combined Azipod and conventional ship handling courses.

In addition to smart type classrooms integrated with simulators and the Wärtsilä NACOS Platinum ECDIS training suite, resources include an operative safety centre with SMCS Tactical Table, a high voltage training suite, interactive virtual machinery spaces, and a separated forward and Aft switchboard.

MSA Solent has signed a long/term maintenance and software support agreement with Wärtsilä.
