SurvitecZodiac expertise for Swedish ferry
SurvitecZodiac, which is part of UK based marine safety equipment company, Survitec Group, has won a contract to install its MIS MES escape slide and liferaft system on a Swedish ferry operated by Ventrafiken.
The new double ended ferry, Uraniborg, has been fitted with two SurvitecZodiac escape and slide systems – each contain two 151 person open reversible liferafts. The systems are the first to feature a soft fabric cover that protects against severe weather conditions and ultra-violet light. The soft fabric cover makes it significantly lighter, more cost efficient and less likely to be damaged by machinery of deck activity, than a traditional GRP casing.
Approved by Bureau Veritas, the systems consist of a 14.5m double slide and a pre-connected second raft which can create capacity for over 300 passengers and crew. SurvitecZodiac says the slide design can enable the escape of 731 passengers in 30 minutes when used with its throw-over 150 person canopy liferafts, providing a fast evacuation speed for small to medium sized vessels and high speed craft.
The Uraniborg recently entered service between Landskrona and the island of Ven located between Sweden and Denmark, following a successful full scale heavy weather sea trial in the harbour at Hvide Sande, Denmark.
SurvitecZodiac is also in the process of developing a 12.5m version of its MIS MES system expected in early 2013.
