Thames Clippers marks International Women’s Day
MBNA Thames Clippers did its bit to mark International Women’s Day 2018 by putting together an all-female crew to operate one of its vessels.
On 8 March, one vessel’s crew was led by Joy McGlinchey, who in 2015, during her fifth year working for the river operator, achieved the accolade of becoming the river’s youngest high-speed captain to work on the Thames.
Ms McGlinchey was joined by mate Ellie Wooldridge and relief mate, Emma Lewis on the RB1 route from Woolwich (Royal Arsenal) to Battersea Power Station, with barista Sitarah Bailey-Thompson completing the crew.
With an all-female fleet control and three of the four female captains on the Thames working for the business, MBNA Thames Clippers said it is hoping it is making a point highlighting the many opportunities available to women keen to pursue a career in the marine sector.
As a company it said it is passionate about continuing to challenge the ratios of what remains a male-dominated sector.
