The author became involved in sailing as a traveller rather than from a sailing background. She was a founder partner in an overland expedition company back in the sixties which provided her with the opportunity to make many extended and unique journeys around the globe.
After learning how to sail, navigate and live on board, she launched her own yacht back in 1981 and moved to Buenos Aires in 1989, which gave her the opportunity to spend over ten years continually sailing and writing about her experiences.
