Titan present Costa Concordia removal plan
Titan Salvage has presented the detailed engineering and design plan for the removal of the ‘Costa Concordia’ wreck to the Osservatorio, the body responsible for overseeing the removal operations.
In recent months, tests have been carried out on various technologies which will be used to remove the wreckage successfully and safely. Titan presented the phases of the plan and discussed the increasing need to prevent any potential impacts on the surrounding marine environment including turbidity, sediments, current patterns and sea mammals.
Drilling techniques and mapping of the seabed have been carefully analysed and selected. The land environment (air quality, noise and vibrations) has also been evaluated to aid in minimising harmful effects. Thorough monitoring of the surrounding environment will be in place once drilling is underway.
Orders for suppliers of the materials and work have been secured. These purchases will benefit the Italian industry and local economy.
The parbuckling and refloating of the Costa Concordia wreckage is expected to be completed by spring 2013 but is dependent upon subcontractor deliveries and schedules.
