Van der Velden solutions at Workboat Show

US based Ships Machinery International (SMI) will be showcasing Dutch Van der Velden Marine Systems at this year’s International Workboat Show in New Orleans, taking place between 5 and 7 December.

Van der Velden recently delivered master rudders for Crowley's ocean tug series

This year the focus will be on inland shipping. For inland shipping vessels, Van der Velden’s Hydro Dynamic profile rudders provide an excellent manoeuvring performance and improve vessel efficiency due to their asymmetrical profile.

The company’s asymmetric steering gear which, was developed for its HD rudder systems, enables the rudders to have a rudder angle of 60˚ and 80˚, providing inland shipping vessels with the best slipstream guidance.

The company recently delivered eight of its master fishtail rudders to Florida based Crowley, for its ocean tug series. The fishtail shaped master rudder has no moving parts and gives a rudder angle of up to 70˚. Combined with upper and lower end plates, this angle allows for the high lift required by Crowley’s tugs.

Van der Velden also provides fully equipped control panels and manoeuvring systems for ocean going vessels. The systems ensure smooth manoeuvring and offer reduced fuel costs, maintenance costs and noise and vibration levels.
