Acciona to build Ravenna breakwater
Spanish infrastructure firm Acciona has been awarded a contract to construct a major breakwater at the Port of Ravenna, Italy.
The project, designed to protect the port’s upcoming floating industrial terminal, will see Acciona collaborate with Italian company RCM Construzioni.
Scheduled for completion within 24 months, the breakwater will be built 8.5km off the coast, near Punta Marina, south of Ravenna, in the North Adriatic Sea.
The project is valued at €216 million and includes the construction of an 880m-long and 22m-wide vertical dock, supported by concrete caissons.
The Port Authority of the North-Central Adriatic Sea, with funding from Italy’s Cassa Depositi e Prestiti development bank, is providing financial support for the project.
The floating LNG terminal that the breakwater will safeguard is expected to begin operations in early 2025.
