Easy start to condition based monitoring
A new kit which includes everything that is needed to carry out reliable condition monitoring and enables ship operators to take a first step towards ongoing condition based maintenance has been launched by SKF.
The global engineering company explain that even a non-trained user can interpret the results of vibration data measurements and locate the source of the fault in the machinery. The kit includes the Microlog Advisor Pro, a handheld monitoring device and marine specific software which is modelled on typical equipment. This software is loaded in the SKF Microlog Advisor Pro and is preconfigured to convert the measured data into an easy to understand colour coded result.
The kit also includes a comprehensive step by step user guide to simplify the implementation and training of the crew. In addition to data collection the kit has the capability to conduct additional analysis of the machine, based on FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) frequency band analysis. This method will detect the most likely cause of the fault whether unbalanced units, bearing or gear failure, electrical motor issues or hydraulic and aerodynamic problems.
