The expansion builds on the new facility in Somerville and features three dedicated divisions to house four rotational moulding machines, raw materials storage and finished goods. The primary purpose of the rotational moulding equipment is to design and produce navigational buoys for ports and harbours around the world. The new equipment allows Sealite to produce the full range of navaids in house. The company says this will greatly reduce end-user costs and shorten response times to meet customer demand. Customers will benefit from shortened lead times and greater production efficiencies and ability in project customisation.

Sealite took delivery recently of the largest of their rotational moulding machines, which is fully automated to mould any one piece plastic product up to 15 feet in diameter. It features a closed-oven system and twin shuttles that make for more efficient buoy production.

Phase 2 of the development of the new production facility was due to be completed in 2008 but was brought forward by 18 months to meet demand for products.

Sealite began manufacturing marine aids to navigation in 1982 and has created a range of products that consume extremely low levels of power, making them suitable for low maintenance solar energy power source. The company’s range of navaids has expanded to include leading lights, bridge lighting, rotationally moulded buoy products and power systems.
