Cable burial nears completion at London Array

This was the third of four export cables which run from the onshore substation at Cleve Hill to the two offshore substations at the wind farm site. The cables carry the power generated from the turbines to the onshore substation and also hold vital fibre optic wires that are used to communicate remotely with the wind turbines to monitor and control their performance.

The Stemat Spirit was due back onsite to start the installation of the fourth and final export cable.

A new milestone was also reached with the erection of London Array’s 100th wind turbine.

Phase 1 of London Array will feature 175 turbines with a combined capacity of 630MW. Major construction is due to be completed by the end of the year.
