Marineco Shamal joins fleet of Sure Wind

This brings Sure Wind’s fleet to eight wind farm support vessels, and the newly renamed Sure Shamal will join four other Sure ‘P’ class vessels on German windfarm contracts. Sure Wind expects to add other vessel later this year as well as securing newbuild slots for 2014.

“This Damen Twin Axe Catamaran is part of our response to customer demands for more high quality vessels, backed up by our great crews and operations”, said Sure Wind founder and MD Dominic Abraham, formerly a director at Teekay Shipping.

The vessel being named Sure Shamal in recognition of its famous heritage as the original example of the Twin Axe Catamaran. This original vessel has proved very popular in the two years since it was introduced to the market.

As its 2610 designation suggests, this Damen Shipyard Twin Axe catamaran measures 26m LOA, with a 10m beam and equipped to carry 15 persons. The model is now a well established market workhorse, adapted for rough weather and the conditions found at sites far offshore.

It has been increasingly noted that the German offshore market upon which Sure Wind concentrates require a blend of manoeuvrable 20m vessel such as Sure Wind’s ‘P’ Class vessels Sure Pride, Sure Progress, Sure Pilgrim and Sure Partner, and also a 26m vessel such as the Twin Axe.

The first contract for the vessel is on a German windfarm which is an existing client of Sure Wind. The project is an example of excellent cooperation between Sure Wind, Marineco and the clients in Germany.
