New energy award for ‘Beatrice’ developer

The award is designed to recognise the company that has made the most meaningful progress or made the biggest impact in the renewable energy sector during the year.

SeaEnergy Renewables was set up by the team who conceived, developed and delivered the Beatrice offshore wind farm demonstrator project, the world’s first deep water wind farm development. The Beatrice Project involved the installation of the two largest wind turbines (5MW each) ever deployed offshore, at water depths of 45 metres.

The company was also awarded two development sites in the Scottish Round at the beginning 2009 with partners SSE Renewables (Scottish & Southern Energy plc) and RWE npower renewables (RWE AG) with a capacity of 1.8 GW. The recent award of UK Round 3 of Zone 1 with partners EDPR takes SeaEnergy’s net capacity in the UK to over 780MW.

Accepting the award, Joel Staadecker, CEO of SeaEnergy Renewables said, ‘We are delighted to have won the Company of the Year award. It is so gratifying for our management team to have been recognised for our outstanding achievements at such a prestigious event. Offshore wind power generation is going to make a major contribution to the UK’s energy needs and we’re very excited to be at the heart of it.’
