Ørsted building wind farm base in Vlissingen

The Borssele Wind farm is located approximately 12 miles offshore from the Dutch coast and it will be one of the largest wind farms in the Dutch sector of the North Sea.

There will be warehouse storage erected at the base as well as offices and facilities and workshops for minor mechanical works. The facility will extent to 2100 sq. metres with much of this based on reclaimed land. A sea wall has to be incorporated into the facility to reduce the possibility of flooding and access to the berthing section will be by means of ramps over this wall.

For berthing the wind farm crew transfer vessels there will be two floating finger pontoons extending out from the shore allowing the vessels to moor on either side. This will allow up to four vessels to be accommodated at the same time. Incorporated into the shore base will be facilities for both the boat crews and the technicians that will be ferried out and it is anticipated that this new facility will provide employment for between 50-100 persons once it is operational.

The contract for the construction of the new base has been placed with local company Cordeel which is a major design and build company in the Netherlands.
