Samson B gives strong support for windfarms

The Penzance UK based operator’s Samson B has visited six wind farms in the last two months, which is a record for the company, and there is more work planned. A recent contract with Siemens has taken the vessel from the London Array to Gunfleet Sands, Sheringham Shoal and Lynn and Inner Dowsing on the East Coast to Walney and then Burbo Bank on the West coast. In some cases, it was able to mobilize at short notice. On top of the busy work schedule, it also managed to have a damaged propeller replaced.

Samson B is ideally suited for heavy lift team work and has an experienced crew of six on rotation, who can keep it working 24 hours a day when required.

A cruise speed of 23 knots is provided by two 872 hp Caterpillar C18 diesel engines driving fixed pitch propellers through Twin Disc gearboxes. Since the launch in 2011 Samson B has also undertaken substantial jack-up support work in the offshore wind sector.

Her large flat foredeck makes it easy to handle tools and equipment that is lifted onto the turbine and the aft deck is spacious enough to accommodate a generator suitable for turbine use.”
