Tidal Energy Turbine for Northern Ireland

Bristol UK based Marine Current Turbines Ltd (MCT) has been granted consent by the Environment & Heritage Service in Northern Ireland to install its next generation tidal energy device, the 1,000kW SeaGen tidal energy turbine, in Northern Irelands Strangford Lough. MCT is also investigating the feasibility of building a 12 unit tidal energy farm in waters off Lynmouth on the North Devon coast.

The first SeaGen tidal energy turbine will be connected to the UK National Grid later this year.
