Turbine foundations built on pontoons

Belgium’s Jan De Nul NV, a branch of the Jan De Nul Group, is constructing 16 concrete wind turbine foundations for Swedish client Eon.

The foundations were built on two pontoons in the inner harbour of Zeebrugge in four phases; concrete slab, retaining walls, central shaft and icecone. The height of these elements ranges from 15m to 25m and the heaviest element weighs approximately 1,940 tonnes. The project is made unique by the large and heavy foundation elements being constructed on pontoons and in a very short period of only five months.

The design, construction, and installation at sea of the foundations are all being executed by the Jan De Nul Group.
