Coastal defence works off UK south coast
Beach recharge work got underway on the south coast of the UK near Chichester towards the end of June and is due to continue for approximately four months.
The dredgers Sospan Dau and Shoreway(98m) are dredging shingle from licensed dredging areas east of the Isle of Wight and discharging the material onto the beach near the Bunn Leisure Caravan Park, between newly constructed breakwaters. All vessels will maintain listening watch on VHF channel 16.
A 500m floating pipeline has been installed and is being used by the dredgers to pump the material onto the beach. Discharge operations are due to take place during high water. The pipeline is moored with six anchors and marked with yellow navigational marker buoys.
