Its All Go for New Name MarineCo

Scores of visitors to their stand questioned the connection between the marine contractors and workboat operators and their company name, which reflected origins as a designer and manufacturer of ventilation and air conditioning systems.

The marine division has grown rapidly since its inception in 1996 and has added a number of vessels to its fleet of workboats this year, which will now be re-branded in accordance with the company name change.

MarineCo’s tug MarineCo Akela has recently finished the summer phase of a seven year contract refurbishing Scotland’s historic Forth Rail Bridge. The vessel is currently in Exmouth undergoing a major upgrade and refit. MarineCo is the main marine logistics contractor to Balfour Beatty on the project, providing both marine equipment and project management. Work this summer required large quantities of scaffolding and shot blast to be lifted from the river up to the bridge, a challenge met mooring a barge equipped with a large telescopic crane at a variety of locations. This enabled materials to be passed to the workforce exactly where needed for considerable savings in manual handling. As ‘the world’s largest access project’ continues over the next seven years, thousands more tonnes of materials will be handled by MarineCo. The MPV MarineCo Bagheera has also been working on the Forth Rail Bridge refurbishment.

New to the fleet this year is MPV MarineCo Tabriki, which is working at the construction of a new ferry terminal at Scrabster in the north of Scotland. New Daewoo engines and gearboxes fitted after purchase are providing the power required to move large barges and jack-up rigs.

MPV MarineCo Mowgli, another vessel new to the company this year, is designed for harbour and canal work and is road transportable. The vessel is presently working for British Waterways on the Forth/Clyde Millennium link.

The company also own and operate various barges, with the latest acquisition being a 40m by 20m spud leg barge in full Class with a carrying capacity of 1,780 tonnes. The vessel had received four charter enquiries within days of its purchase earlier this month.
