Major British utility companies have moved to join the march towards offshore renewable energy with the Centrica Group, which owns British Gas, announcing plans to build a £ 100m wind farm in the Irish Sea and Powergen Renewables buying the rights to develop a £ 200m wind farm off the west coast of Scotland.
