Feel the thrust at Seawork
One of the many recent placements of UltraJet waterjets by Seawork exhibitor Ultra Dynamics Ltd has been to the second of three line handling boats of the Wave Handler range, built by Alnmaritec to operate on a new LNG terminal constructed in Yemen.
The 9 ton displacement
Kamaran
measures 10.15m LOA with a beam of 4.6m. Classed MCA category 3, the vessel is fitted with twin 355bhp Cummins QSB marine diesels driving UltraJet 305 HT (high thrust) waterjets for a 28 knot top speed and 3 tons bollard pull.
The vessel has a fully enclosed wheel house and internal seating for six passengers. There is a 2 ton hydraulic capstan and a tow post fitted with an on-load quick release hook as well as a man overboard recovery davit and an aft dive platform with dive ladder. The boat is fitted with a water spray deluge system and also carries a removable boarding platform since its duties also include pilot operations for the LNG tankers.
The UltraJet High Thrust is derived from the UltraJet 305, which has been in service for ten years. It has the same major installation dimensions and can be installed into an identical space but has a 10% higher static thrust, up to 3,040 pounds at 250hp.
To achive the superior thrust, design improvements have been made to intake and impeller of the UJ305HT. The high thrust was specifically introduced into the UltraJet range for applications such as bridge erection and towing, where high static thrust is a prerequisite. It also achieves superior manoeuvrability, with an enhanced ability to accelerate quickly, reverse, stop, rotate, hold station or move sideways. The light weight and compact design accommodates a variety of on-jet and remote mounted hydraulic control systems.
