Gearbox Certification Lands French Police Boat Order
In choosing transmissions to team with its MAN engines, Nanni Diesel Industries considered several factors for completing the construction of 24 new French Gendarmerie boats. When it was confirmed that one of the major factors, Lloyds Registry of Shipping (LRS) approval, was part of Twin Discs overall package, the decision went in favour of the Wisconsin USA based manufacturer Construction of the 20m boats begins this autumn at the Beneteau facility in Noirmoutier, an island off the French coast.
In addition to Twin Disc’s MG-5145A transmissions, the boats will be equipped with weapons, a RIB for rescue operations, and firefighting apparatus. Delivery of the series will begin in March 2003.
Twin Disc received LRS approval for the MG-5145A transmission earlier this year.
The approval covers five Twin Disc rating definitions, which include pleasure, light, intermediate, medium and continuous duty.
The MG-5145A, released one year ago, has high performance capabilities married to a compact design. The high speed capability required for the French Gendarmeries boats is achieved through lightweight construction. Also, the down angle transmission allows for near level engine installation for optimised propulsion system performance.
