Long wearing bearings at Seawork 2009

Following significant interest from a wide variety of exhibitors and visitors at last year’ s show, H4 Marine returns for Seawork 2009 with new grades of its composite bearing material Maritex, which have gone on trial in two new industry sectors and are due for testing very soon by the Royal Navy.

H4 Marine has been replacing traditional rubber cutless and pump bearings with the new advanced composites called Aquarius and has received orders for applications running in oil water and dry under loads to 100Mpa. The new grade of Aquarius will be on H4’s stand at Seawork 2009 and the company is interested in talking to anyone who has experienced premature bearing failure or who is running bearings near the limit of thermal expansion and bore closure.

The latest version of Aquarius has been perfected over the past three months, culminating in a number of orders for high load low friction bushes which have exceeded the design requirements significantly and are capable of withstanding wide temperature fluctuations in service.

Maritex is widely used as a stern tube and rudder bearing under Lloyds approval and has the widest range of composite bearing materials available to keep systems operating effectively for longer in challenging environments. Maritex is capable of replacing other advanced reinforced polymer composite bearings and results in improved operation. The advanced composite material is suitable for a very wide range of applications and its properties can be adjusted to suit specialist circumstances, retaining the very high mechanical strength of the material whilst

Maritex can be found in stern tubes, rudders and stabilisers on a large number of craft from commercial workboats to high performance military vessels, often having replaced the bearing material originally fitted. Maritex can be supplied in tube, square, hollow square, discs or sheets. It machines easily without dust and virtually no smell, producing a swarf that is not flammable.
