New Steyr series is launched at Seawork
Steyr Motors UK distributor, Mitchell Powersystems, had a well receivedopportunity to showcase the Austrian manufacturer’s new 6 cylinder marine diesel engines at the recent Seawork exhibition in Southampton.
Steyr Motors again held true to its own slogan ‘Innovation with lightness’, having successfully redesigned its 6 cylinder series during the last 18 months. After an intensive test period, production started in January 2012 and the MO-series became the SE-series.
The all new SE-series is based on the reinforced Monoblock design, which is key for a robust and durable operation under the highest load conditions. The Monoblock received redesigned intake channels and this, together with the upgraded high pressure multifuel Unit Injector, results in a significant improvement of the efficiency. In some models and under certain load conditions, this can be up to 30%. The overall packaging dimensions have been reduced which is of benefit for both the builders and operators of light workboats.
Another significant improvement has been made in the cooling system, including a thermostat controlled oil cooler and a complete redesign of exhaust manifold and heat exchanger. These measures have resulted in a significant reduction of oil consumption, a shorter warm-up period and the elimination of white smoke.
Steyr Motors has also made great efforts to give the engine a more bold and elegant styling. The new SE-series meets all the current and near future exhaust emission requirements, including EPA Tier III, RCD, BSO 2, IMO Nox.
Nottinghamshire based Mitchell Powersystems can provide a full propulsion solution including controls, waterjet and stern drive systems, which are fully compatible with the new Steyr SE-series.
