Power Boost for New Vetus Diesel
Marine equipment and propulsion supplier VetusDen Ouden NV of Schiedam in the Netherlands has increased the output of itspopular M3.09 Mitsubishi based marine diesel engine by 8% whilst at the sametime reducing the fuel consumption by some 5%.
The new engine, coded M3.28, now has an output of no less than 20 kW (27.2 hp).
The performance boost owes much to a redesigned cylinder head and larger valve diameters. The new three cylinder Vetus enjoys not only a power increase, the torque has also been improved from 49.1 Nm to 53.1 Nm.
A more powerful 50A alternator has replaced the former 40A version and completes the improvements. Like its predecessor, the new M3.28 engine also features an indirect cooling system with heat exchanger. A keel cooled version is available as an option.
The weight of the engine remains unchanged at 123 kg, including the gearbox.
