Super Quiet Vessel Marks Technological Breakthrough
Norways Soviknes Shipyard, part of the Aker Brattvaag Group, has delivered a completely new multipurpose offshore vessel design which is said to represent a technological breakthrough in several areas.
The Type UT 737 newbuilding Normand Flower, delivered to Island Offshore IV KS, is 93.1m long of 4,100dwt and has accommodation for 140 people.
In addition to the usual range of supply services on vessels of this type however, Normand Flower is only the second offshore vessel to be fitted with ABB Compact Azipod propulsion, based on an advanced diesel electric system of about 12 000kW. ABB said it meets all technical, transit and manoeuvring demands.
Emphasis has been placed on health, safety and environment and on high crew comfort.
Flexibly-mounted machinery and super silent thrusters with extremely good noise and vibration characteristics are fitted and the vessel is well suited, with a moonpool, for ROV and subsea operations. It also boasts a helicopter deck and a large 100ton SWL offshore crane and is fitted with the DP system Dynpos AUTRO (DP III) with split engine compartments and bridge, and oil recovery operations.
The hull was built by Aker Brattvaag subsidiary Aker Tulcea in Romania.
