V-Line Compressors for Japanese Newbuilds
Hamworthy KSE has secured an order for its V-Line starting air compressors from the prolific Japanese shipbuilder Oshima.
Hamworthy KSE will supply eight V-Lines for four 48,000dwt open hatch bulk carriers to be built at Oshima’s yard for Singapore operator Masterbulk.
The Oshima vessels will each be equipped with two of the two-stage watercooled main engine starting air compressors, each with a capacity of 200m 3/h at 30 bar working pressure. Deliveries are scheduled for completion by June 2003.
Continuous development of the V-Line has yielded a low-vibration variant with an upper vibration limit of 21mm/s.
P&O Princess is among the first users of this variant, having specified it for two 110,000grt cruise vessels under construction at the Nagasaki yard of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
