Gurkhas Driving Port Vehicle Security
Security specialist Octavian Security has beenappointed by the GBA Group to provide manned guarding services for a number ofits vehicle import terminals across the UK.
The appointment will involve the deployment of over 40 security officers to provide 24 hour total security for the import terminals. Octavian’s officers will guard the import, storage and distribution of some 500,000 vehicles per year.
Octavian has also introduced a Port Security module to its in-house training division, to act as a yearly refresher course to its experienced officers and for the benefit of new recruits.
Octavian, in partnership with GBA and Constabularies across the UK, has also established a ‘port watch’ scheme which has been set up to enhance the company’s strategy for this port security contract. This section of the work will be headed by Octavian Security director Michael Burrows, who was formerly chief superintendent and head of operations at Nottinghamshire Constabulary.
Octavian will be utilising a number of its ex-Gurkha regiment security officers on this contract, who are now known for high profile roles across the UK delivering security for public transport, logistics, distribution and warehousing contracts as well as for corporate clients such as IKEA, Boots, Sainsbury’s and the BBC.
