Mega-Voice loud and clear at Seawork

Visitors to previous Seawork exhibitions have occasionally missed announcements of upcoming events and demonstrations, especially out on the quayside or on the floating pontoon, where winds and/or the sheer vastness of space would dilute and dissipate the effective transmission of sound.

That problem should be a thing of the past at Seawork 2009, for which first time Seawork exhibitor Sound-To-Go of North London is providing its powerhouse backpackable Mega-Voice public address system.

The 131dB loud (at distances from 800m to 1,500m) Mega-Voice is 40 times more powerful than the average megaphone and its volume does not succumb to the outdoor effects of wind, weather, background noise or high buildings. Not only Seawork event information but, should they be necessary, essential safety broadcasts will come through loud and clear. Mega-Voice is clearly suitable not only for outdoor commercial marine exhibitions but any number of other situations where the clear conveyance of safety information is essential.

Mega-Voice was originally developed for German military intelligence and a new, upgraded 2009 version has been developed for the British Ministry of Defence. Such a system would be ideal for police crowd control situations but the marinised version in use at Seawork extends the product’s usefulness not only onto quayside applications but also on board craft such as pilot/patrol launches, Coastguard/RNLI boats and SAR vessels. Marine construction support vessels of all types would also find Mega-Voice helpful in noisy working environments where communication with colleagues on marine structures is required.

Mega-Voice can be worn as a rucksack or mounted on a stand. Forced battery technology gives the user up to 12 hours of life from one battery and the unit can be run from mains power while the battery is recharging. The dual horn system unit weighs only 10.5 kg. Operators can also use UHF wireless technology to broadcast from a position up to 150m away. It can also be attached to a radio and broadcast through a network.

The Mega-Voice system works with Sound-To-Go’s’ Phraselator, which can be pre-programmed with any language for repeat messaging or warnings. Any speech audio input can be used with Mega-voice, including MP3, CD or personal radio.
